Re-Imagining Deep Sea Imaging Systems: Combining 4K Imaging with a Novel Web Client Interface to Create an Ultra-Low Latency, Live Video Streaming and Control Environment with Integrated Support for Real-Time Remote Operations and Outreach

In the rapidly evolving landscape of subsea imaging technologies, this paper describes the development of a versatile deep-sea imaging control system with an integrated web client interface for camera and device control. The imaging control system combines commercial of F-the-shelf components with a purpose-built server and custom software to produce a highly-scalable system capable of capturing geotagged still images and 4K video coupled with real-time companion metadata. Intended for applications requiring real-time operations, the imaging control system includes an ultra-low latency, live video streaming, interactive web client user interface combined with modular system architecture to facilitate adaptability and enable the opportunity to expand real-time remote operations and outreach across a range of submersible platforms and applications.
