Enhanced Multidimensional Signal Processing Schemes for High Areal Density Heated-Dot Magnetic Recording

In this research, we propose a multidimensional signal processing scheme for a heated-dot magnetic recording (HDMR) system with double-layered bit-patterned media (BPM). The proposed signal processing scheme corresponds to an enhanced scheme compared to the previous scheme. That is to say, this advanced HDMR system with the proposed multidimensional signal processing scheme for three-track recording in each layer enabling an extension from the previous HDMR system with the conventional multidimensional signal processing scheme for two-track recording in each layer leads to further increase in the total data transmission rate. In this multidimensional signal processing scheme, the adopted signal detection schemes detect data sequences recorded on three tracks in each layer from the top layer to the bottom layer. We use a multilevel detector to detect each data sequence sequentially recorded on three respective tracks in the top layer and the other multilevel detector to detect data sequences simultaneously recorded on three tracks in the bottom layer. Therefore, the total data transmission rate of the advanced HDMR system with double-layered BPM can be increased about six times that of the HDMR system with single-layered BPM in principle.
