Factors Alleviating Job Boredom: Focusing on Empowering Leadership, Work Engagement, and Adaptive Performance
This study aims to examine the relationship between supervisors' empowering leadership and subordinates' job boredom, while testing the mediating effect of work engagement and the moderating effect of adaptive performance in this process. An online survey was conducted targeting employees from various companies. The results of the analysis showed that supervisors' empowering leadership had a negative effect on subordinates' job boredom. Work engagement mediated the relationship between supervisors' empowering leadership and subordinates' job boredom. Adaptive performance moderated the negative relationship between supervisors' empowering leadership and subordinates' job boredom. Specifically, the negative impact of supervisors' empowering leadership on subordinates' job boredom was strengthened when employees exhibited high adaptive performance. This study surveyed employees experiencing job boredom and identified antecedents that alleviate it, contributing to the expansion of knowledge on job boredom research. The structural relationships between job boredom, empowering leadership, work engagement, and adaptive performance were examined. Theoretical and practical implications, as well as limitations, were discussed.
