Prism to convert tires into chemicals

Prism Worldwide has raised $40 million to advance technology that converts used tires into thermoplastic elastomers. Most old tires are incinerated or landfilled, but several companies are developing methods to chemically recycle them . Prism’s technology reverses cross-linking bridges that form during sulfur vulcanization of rubber. The company says the products it makes from old tires can be recycled repeatedly.

Abstract

Prism Worldwide has raised $40 million to advance technology that converts used tires into thermoplastic elastomers. Most old tires are incinerated or landfilled, but several companies are developing methods to chemically recycle them . Prism’s technology reverses cross-linking bridges that form during sulfur vulcanization of rubber. The company says the products it makes from old tires can be recycled repeatedly.
