A RELAÇÃO DA DOENÇA PERIODONTAL COM A ENDOCARDITE BACTERIANA: REVISÃO DE LITERATURA.

Introduction: Patients at risk of developing bacterial endocarditis should be treated with prophylactic measures, such as antibiotic prophylaxis, treatment of endodontic and periodontal infections, and oral health maintenance, to reduce the possibility of bacterial endocarditis. Objective: To understand how a high-risk patient with periodontal disease can develop bacterial endocarditis, and how we can prevent it with prophylactic measures. Method: This research is characterized by being a systematic literature review carried out through bibliographical research, covering scientific articles and relevant documents that address the topic of antibiotic prophylaxis in patients with periodontal disease at risk of progressing to bacterial endocarditis. Results: Seven articles where selected, because they were adequate to the inclusion criteria and allowed to answer the objetctives of this study. Discussion: To reduce the incidence of infection, the prophylactic recommendation for bacterial endocarditis is the prescription of amoxicillin 2g, orally, one hour before the dental procedure. Conclusion: The dental surgeon must present knowledge about the management of a patient at risk of developing bacterial endocarditis. Antibiotic prophylaxis for bacterial endocarditis is the prescription of amoxicillin 2g orally one hour before the procedure.
