Generative artificial intelligence (AI) and its performance at indexing tasks
Artificial intelligence (AI) and its opportunities and threats are currently the subject of extensive debate. This article begins by briefly outlining the technologies comprising AI and how they are used in publishing, before reporting on experiments with generative AI chatbots Claude and Adobe AI Assistant. It evaluates their performance at indexing-related tasks such as summary and keyword generation, and at the creation of indexes. It concludes by discussing the factors that may impact on the extension of AI tools into indexing.
