Prevalence of hip osteoarthritis in long term users of western toilet.

Background : The incidence of hip osteoarthritis among long-term Western-style toilet users has drawn notice lately. Western toilets promote sitting, which may have an impact on hip joint mechanics. Extended periods of sitting may increase joint tension and change the distribution of weight. When sitting, the angle of the hips may have an impact on how weight is distributed throughout the joint, which could eventually result in more wear and tear. Posture of sitting on Western toilet, might weaken and impair the mobility of the hip joints. A sedentary lifestyle increases the risk of osteoarthritis, as inactivity worsens deterioration and stiffness. The prevalence of OA is more, particularly in societies where Western toilet use is prevalent. Checking the prevalence of hip OA in long-term Western toilet users is the goal of this research. Methods: A cross-sectional survey carried out in Karad City. Approval from the ethical committee was gained. Based on inclusion and exclusion criteria, participants were selected. 249 Western toilet users participated with their consent, and the HOOS 12 questionnaire was used to collect data. A statistician analyzed the results. Result : All of the 249 participants answered.24.49% had severe changes, 71.88% had moderate changes, and 3.61% had mild changes. Conclusion : 24.49% of the 249 long-time users of western toilets in Karad City who were included of the study sample had severe hip osteoarthritis (OA), 71.88% had moderate alterations, and 3.61% had light changes. These results suggest that long-term users of western toilets have a high prevalence of moderate to severe hip OA. However, more investigation is needed to identify the cause and additional risk factors.
