Low can be even lower
Low can be even lowerWe read with interest the case report of a successful treatment of an abdominal aortic aneurysm via standard endovascular aortic repair with an ultra-low dose of 2.4 Gycm 2 , published in the August 2024 issue of the Journal. 1 However, we would like to highlight the fact that the radiation dose in this article is not the lowest one reported in the current literature, as the authors state in their article.A few years ago, our group reported an even lower dose area product value of 2.0 Gycm 2 , which was achieved for a standard endovascular aortic aneurysm repair of an infrarenal aortic aneurysm (please refer to Table I [range of dose area product values] of the original article). 2Nevertheless, we would like to commend the authors for observing the as low as reasonably achievable (ALARA) principle and encouraging the readers to do so.Finally, the importance of radiation protection led the European Society for Vascular Surgery to publish the first clinical practice guideline on radiation safety.
