SÍNDROME DE PANDORA: ANÁLISE DO EIXO HIPOTÁLAMO-HIPÓFISEADRENAL E ESTRATÉGIAS DE ENRIQUECIMENTO AMBIENTAL.
Feline idiopathic cystitis, also known as Pandora Syndrome, is a chronic condition that affects not only the lower urinary tract of cats but also endocrine and psychological aspects. The exact cause is not yet fully understood; however, studies have shown that there are predisposing factors such as genetics, obesity, environmental management, nutritional management, and stress, with stress being the primary factor. This study presents a literature review on the importance of effective management in the routine and life expectancy of cats and the role of the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis in relation to stress. Chronic stimulation of this axis can lead to hormonal changes that directly affect the urinary bladder and contribute to idiopathic cystitis. The syndrome can be recurrent and chronic, and its pathogenesis is not yet fully elucidated. However, with appropriate treatment, many cats can lead a comfortable and highquality life. Therefore, understanding and effectively managing idiopathic cystitis, as well as controlling clinical signs, will significantly contribute to the advancement of knowledge about the disease and, consequently, to the well-being of cats affected by this syndrome.
