Impact Assessment of the Government-installed Solar-Powered Irrigation Systems in Agusan del Sur

This research examined the impact of Solar-Powered Irrigation Systems (SPIS) on small-scale farmers in Agusan del Sur, Philippines, using both quantitative and qualitative methods to assess economic, environmental, and social implications.Key findings included doubling rice production yield in San Francisco and Sta.Josefa during the dry season and a reduction in fuel costs from 69% to 34% after SPIS adoption.Beneficiary assessments in four municipalities showed varying satisfaction levels with SPIS usage and extension services, highlighting the crucial role of government agencies in boosting farmers' productivity and sustainable practices.SPIS implementation led to significant environmental benefits, including a reduction of 14,803.826gallons of 2 annually and decreased gasoline and diesel fuel consumption, saving approximately 181.774 and 1268.173gallons per year. However, water misuse incidents pointed to the need for better measures and further education to ensure sustainable SPIS operation and maximize its benefits.
