Unexpected Connections between International Studies and Theatre
Some of the many beautiful elements about theatre that make the art form so impactful are the multitude of lived experiences, questions, and concepts that are able to be shared on stages throughout the world. Part of the magic of theatre is how it is able to transport the audience into the world the company has created and how it is able to leave the audience pondering the themes, questions, and morals expressed in the show long after the curtain falls. In non-creative arts disciplines, at times it can be difficult to find avenues that incorporate the intersections of the creative arts in the analyses and queries posed in respective academic spheres. Through this article, the author endeavours to analyze the intersections she was able to find between international studies and theatre during her time as an undergraduate international studies student, as well as the ways this impacted her approach to analyzing how the concepts of Blackness and freedom can be understood within this context.
