Physical and Mechanical Properties of Polymer Films with Tin Oxide Nanoparticles Obtained in Plasma Discharge under the Effect of Ultrasound

In this work, we prepared and studied the physical and mechanical properties of films made of the polymer composite material based on specially synthesized nanoparticles of tin oxide and a copolymer of ethylene and vinyl acetate. Using the dynamic light scattering method, it was shown that tin oxide nanoparticles synthesized in a plasma discharge under the influence of ultrasonic cavitation have a distribution peak in the region of 50–60 nm; under ultrasonic exposure, particle agglomerates disintegrate and the distribution peak shifts to the region of 30–40 nm. Using these two types of nanoparticles (before and after ultrasonic exposure), samples of polymer composite materials were obtained. From the results of mechanical tests, we can conclude that ultrasonic exposure to filler nanoparticles before their inclusion into the polymer matrix has a positive effect on the uniformity of their distribution within the composite material and also has a positive effect on the physical and mechanical properties of films made from this composite material: the tensile strength increases by 20–25%, and the ultimate deformation by 10–15%.
