A Speculative Manifesto: For the Future of Black Canadian Performance

I wanted to write a speculative manifesto that the artist can reach for at any point in their careers. A speculative manifesto supporting the next wave of Black Canadian performance. I believe the crucial process of envisioning our future is by centring a practice that is generative. But as I continue to unpack cooking beyond the expectation of consumption, I propose cooking to be a portal where we can access sacred knowledge. Delivering messages, memory, and materiality as symbolic codes. Cooking is a generative practice that I believe the artist can turn to to stimulate their creative journey.

Abstract

I wanted to write a speculative manifesto that the artist can reach for at any point in their careers. A speculative manifesto supporting the next wave of Black Canadian performance. I believe the crucial process of envisioning our future is by centring a practice that is generative. But as I continue to unpack cooking beyond the expectation of consumption, I propose cooking to be a portal where we can access sacred knowledge. Delivering messages, memory, and materiality as symbolic codes. Cooking is a generative practice that I believe the artist can turn to to stimulate their creative journey.
