Need of Dynamic Drive Control for Efficient Electrified Powertrain in Automotive Industry

The automotive, aerospace/defense, rail, marine, and manufacturing industries are rolling out energy-efficient electrified powertrains due to increase in energy needs against inadequate energy resources. This article presents the survey data collected from 127 industrial engineers and executives during the National Science Foundation (NSF) National and Regional I-Corp program about dynamic drive control for electrified powertrains. The purpose of dynamic drive control is to ensure the efficient and fault-tolerant operation of the electric drive over a vast operating range. The efficacy of the proposed control algorithm is evaluated for the Electric Drive System (EDS) when operating under different road loads, and operating temperatures. This algorithm makes the EDS immune to performance degradation, rapid aging, and poor efficiency. This technology/product is completely a software-based solution, and any automotive and aerospace industry can install it on their Electronic Control Units (ECUs) and Vehicle Control Units (VCUs) to get the benefits. No hardware changes will be required.
