Irreversible Partial Demagnetization Analysis for Different Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor Rotor Topologies

This paper analyzes the impact of irreversible partial demagnetization on the performance of four PMSM topologies. These topologies, namely Surface-mounted Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (SPMSM), Halbach Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (HPMSM), Inset Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (IPMSM), and Spoke Interior Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (SIPMSM), are designed under the same general specifications and constraints. The analysis focuses on healthy and partially demagnetized motors’ electromagnetic torque, back-EMF, and permanent magnet magnetic flux density. The findings provide insights into the aspects that need to be considered for further development of online detection, identification, and quantification of the extent of demagnetization.
