Analysis of the Lifespan of Temperature Sensors in Medium-Voltage Switchgear

With the development of smart grids, the demand for online condition monitoring of switchgear is increasing. A variety of temperature measurement products are used in monitoring of important equipment. This paper sorts out various online temperature measurement technologies, analyzes the advantages and disadvantages of different technologies, and focuses on the evaluation methods of the reliability and service life of online temperature measurement products. This article describes the basic principles of accelerated life testing and Arrhenius acceleration model, and based on the Arrhenius' model, analyzes the lifespan of the temperature sensor, and derives the temperature-life curve, which is based on different loads scenarios. A temperature portfolio based on load distribution and corresponding temperature is proposed which makes the assessment more consistent with the real operation conditions.
