Design and Optimization of a High-Performance D-Band SIW Antenna for Future 6G IOT Applications

This research presents a Tera Hertz (THz) substrate integrated waveguide antenna (SIW) with microstrip-tapered transition feeding structure for 6G applications. The proposed design covers a 60 GHz bandwidth ranging from 110 GHz to 170 GHz. The SIW cavity dimensions are precisely selected to accommodate multiple higher-order modes that are closely spaced, which helps broaden the operational bandwidth. A nine modes are supported by the suggested antenna structure; <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">$\boldsymbol{TE}_{310}-\boldsymbol{TE}_{220}$</tex> and <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">$\boldsymbol{TE}_{320}-\boldsymbol{TE}_{220}$</tex> at 115. 65GHz, 123. 15 GHz, 126.62GHz, 132.92GHz, 136.52GHz, 147.15GHz, 151. 45GHz, 156. 62GHz and 166. 55GHz, respectively. The results indicate that the SIW antenna attains an average gain of 8.5 dBi and a directivity of 9.6 dBi, along with an overall efficiency of 70.7% throughout the D-band. The design of the proposed antenna occupies a volume of 22 x 15 x 1.575 mm.
