The Method for Line Loss Calculation in High Penetration Distributed Generation Distribution Networks

The high penetration of Distributed Generation (DG) leads to bidirectional power flow in distribution networks, rendering traditional line loss calculation methods inadequate. This article introduces voltage-coulometry and voltage-power factor-coulometry, which overcome the limitations of the traditional coulometry by assuming consistent voltage and power factor across the entire network. Additionally, various types of DG are modeled, and an improved back forward sweep method is proposed to achieve accurate and detailed line loss calculation in distribution networks with high penetration. The calculations are conducted on an actual distribution line in a specific region to assess the accuracy and applicability of different line loss calculation methods. Furthermore, through comparative analysis of three scenarios, the impact of DG integration capacity, location, and other parameters on network voltage and line losses is explored, ultimately validating the feasibility of the improved coulometry and the improved back forward sweep method.
