Prerequisites of a Physical Model of an Inverter-Linked Electric Network Using the Similarity Criterion

The similarity criterion enables the analysis of a complex network using scaled down basic elements. This paper demonstrates the effectiveness of this procedure by deploying a small-scale model, that translates fundamental elements seen in a distribution network, such as power lines and transformers, using basic resistors and inductors that are sized in accordance with the similarity criterion using a specific proportional factor. In addition, grid-forming and grid-following inverters with their associated PV systems are introduced in the distribution grid in order to evaluate system performance under various conditions. Simulations are performed using Matlab-Simulink to demonstrate the validity of the model.
