A Dual Active Bridge-Based Converter for Electric Vehicle Integration in Hybrid Microgrids
The dual active bridge (DAB) converter is one of the promising isolated DC-DC converter topologies finding its application in various fields including energy storage systems and electric vehicle (EV) chargers. In the bidirectional version, the DAB converter is of great interest in vehicle-to-grid (V2G) technologies. Therefore, this paper presents the control and simulation of a DAB converter tailored for EV charging, with added V2G capabilities, to allow interconnection in smart microgrids (MGs). The proposed system enables seamless connection between the DAB and an AC MG through an inverter. With this arrangement, the DAB can share power with both a DC MG and an AC MG, thus forming an AC/DC hybrid MG, which enhances energy management flexibility and facilitates the integration of renewable energy sources. The presented results show that the DAB converter can provide MG control support, showcasing its potential to contribute to a sustainable and resilient energy infrastructure aiding to the overall MG performance.
