Dielectric Properties of Nanocomposite Materials with Applications for Medical Imaging

The development of new materials to improve MR image quality remains an active area of research, but no material with significant use in clinical applications has yet been found. This is mainly due to practical issues such as modeling the specific absorption rate, precise and reproducible placement and acceptable size/weight of such materials. The paper proposes a new concept of flexible biocompatible nano-conductive composite materials with predefined architecture to be used in magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in support of current medical imaging equipment, through a novel multilayer composite technology, with successive exposure in controlled electromagnetic field. Abstract

Composite material samples were prepared using Fe<inf xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">2</inf>O<inf xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">3</inf> and Fe<inf xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">3</inf>O<inf xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">4</inf> nano powders, which were uniformly dispersed at different concentrations within a polyetherurethane (PU) polymer matrix, with and without the addition of Pluronic 1100 adhesive.
