The Study of Influence of Rotor Flux Barriers on Electromagnetic Performance of Interior Permanent Magnet Synchronous Machine (IPMSM)

This paper investigates the influence of magnetic flux barriers on the performance of the Interior Permanent Magnet Synchronous Machine (IPMSM). The design of the rotor, especially the arrangement and placement of the magnetic flux barriers, plays a crucial role in the performance of these machines. This study focuses exclusively on using the Finite Element Method (FEM) to examine the impact of various configurations of magnetic flux barriers on the electromagnetic performance of IPMSMs. Various rotor geometries are modeled in FEA software to investigate the impact of magnetic flux barriers on magnetic flux distribution, field forces, and other important parameters that define the performance of a synchronous machine. The investigation aims to show that the presence and shape of magnetic flux barriers can significantly enhance the performance of IPMSM. These flux barriers can reduce iron losses and eddy-current losses in permanent magnets, as well as minimize torque ripple and cogging torque, leading to improved efficiency and increased torque and power. It is concluded that well-designed flux barriers can potentially decrease manufacturing costs by reducing material weight.
