An Outlook of Building-Integrated Photovoltaics Applications in Highly Urbanized Cities
In highly urbanized cities where land is scarce, Building Integrated Photovoltaics (BIPV) is regarded as a promising solution for net-zero building. Globally, governments have enacted macro policies to catalyze the expansion of BIPV industries. This paper conducts a comparative analysis of research findings for typical cities and regions, assessing the technical and economic feasibility of BIPV. The numerical simulations and testing project results show that highly urban cities with a high percentage of façade areas are suitable for BIPV integration. The discussion on the limitations and opportunities for large-scale BIPV applications also indicates that BIPV systems can accelerate the transformation and upgrading of the traditional construction and photovoltaics industries.
