Effect of inductive loads on cable impedance spectrum and localization results
Cable impedance spectrum has emerged as a promising technique for detecting potential hidden defects in power cables. This method has been extensively studied and implemented, predominantly with measurements taken under open-circuit condition at the cable end. However, practical challenges arise when the cable end loads cannot be easily disconnected, potentially compromising the results of existing localization algorithms. Given that end loads in power systems are typically inductive, this paper addresses the scenario of purely inductive loads at the cable ends and investigates the impact of such loads on the localization accuracy of hidden defects when disconnection is not feasible. This study aims to extend the application scope of impedance spectrum-based localization techniques.
