Case Studies of AC & DC Hybrid Power Distribution Grid Solutions

This paper proposes a multi-segmented, multi-connected, mesh-shaped AC/DC seamless hybrid flexible power distribution system (FPDS) and a grid structure model based on power electronic technologies and power cyber-physical system (PCPS), featured with key innovation namely Local Area Grids (LAGs) and sub-LAGs. LAGs are based on a series of key novel distribution equipment, including power routers, power switches, and power hubs. This structure is similar to the Internet, which changes the radial mode and weakly-connected structure of DN (Distribution Network), and forms an AC & DC hybrid flexible DN. The series new equipment, power router, power switch, and power hub, with the functions of P-CPS are given. Replacing the multiple transformers, controllers, and compensation equipment with a single integrated equipment can significantly reduce the equipment diversity and complexity caused by the integration of DER, support the deep integration of power physical systems and power cyber systems from the technical aspect, and facilitate user participation in DN operation and management. Finally, based on the FPDS single-node system, simulations and physical prototype tests are performed on the proposed new distribution devices. This paper has important reference value for flexible control of AC/DC hybrid DN and friendly access of renewable energy.
