Identifying CDN Replica Selection in the Wild

Today there are over 60 CDNs worldwide that together deliver most of the Internet's content. There have been several efforts to develop and evaluate different replica selection techniques, but we still lack an understanding of the primary strategies used by CDNs to deliver content globally. In this study, we present and apply our methodology to identify the main replica selection technique used by a CDN.

Abstract

Today there are over 60 CDNs worldwide that together deliver most of the Internet's content. There have been several efforts to develop and evaluate different replica selection techniques, but we still lack an understanding of the primary strategies used by CDNs to deliver content globally. In this study, we present and apply our methodology to identify the main replica selection technique used by a CDN.
