Example of cultural literacy education through writing - Focusing on mutual feedback

This study presents a model for cultural literacy education through writing, with a focus on mutual feedback, specifically designed for foreign undergraduate students. Based on this model, an actual class example was developed and implemented. Additionally, a student satisfaction survey was conducted to evaluate the students’ responses to the class. The cultural literacy model emphasizes communication and integrates writing activities into cultural education. Students' written work visually demonstrates their thought processes, allowing for a clearer evaluation. This class fostered mutual improvement by encouraging students to share their cultural experiences with their peers. An analysis of the students’ original writings before and after mutual feedback revealed significant differences. The revised writings showed more refined thoughts on culture. Moreover, 75% of the students indicated that writing with feedback helped them better understand Korean culture. This study confirms that mutual interaction and communication are vital to cultural literacy education. Additionally, writing was found to be an effective tool in these classes, providing a visible representation of changes in students’ thinking.
