THE END OF WORK WHICH HAS NOT YET COME – LABOUR MARKET THEORY AND RESEARCH STUDIES IN THE CONTEXT OF TECHNICAL CHANGE

Labour economics develops theoretical models that explain how technologies affect the size and structure of employment. These theoretical models evolve along with the emergence of new technologies – i.e. Artificial Intelligence. At the same time, technology upgrading has a positive impact on empirical research by creating new data sources. The paper addresses the issue of the evolution of theoretical approaches in analyses of the impact of technological change on the structure of employment and demand for skills. It also elaborates on the conclusions stemming from analyses of unmet labour demand using unstructured data sources – online job offers published on the internet portals.

Abstract

Labour economics develops theoretical models that explain how technologies affect the size and structure of employment. These theoretical models evolve along with the emergence of new technologies – i.e. Artificial Intelligence. At the same time, technology upgrading has a positive impact on empirical research by creating new data sources. The paper addresses the issue of the evolution of theoretical approaches in analyses of the impact of technological change on the structure of employment and demand for skills. It also elaborates on the conclusions stemming from analyses of unmet labour demand using unstructured data sources – online job offers published on the internet portals.
