Leveraging Large Language Models: Enhancing Retrieval-Augmented Generation with ScaNN and Gemma for Superior AI Response

Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) systems are increasingly vital in developing AI assistants capable of answering complex queries by combining retrieval and generation capabilities. However, existing RAG systems often face limitations in retrieval efficiency, scalability, and the contextual relevance of generated responses. This study presents an enhanced RAG system that integrates the Scalable Nearest Neighbors (ScaNN) search algorithm with the Gemma language model to address these challenges. ScaNN improves retrieval speed and accuracy by leveraging anisotropic hashing, while the Gemma language model enhances response generation by processing retrieved information in context. Through meticulous architectural design, advanced data preprocessing, and comprehensive evaluation metrics, our approach demonstrates significant performance gains over baseline models, achieving improved accuracy, relevance, and coherence in responses. The proposed system establishes a novel direction for combining state-of-the-art retrieval and language modeling techniques, offering a more efficient and effective AI solution for diverse applications such as customer service, academic research, and professional decision-making.
