Cocaine Abuse in Teens: A Case Series
Drug addiction is a debilitating disorder with profound economic and social consequences, impacting both individuals and society at large. While substance abuse can affect individuals at any stage of life, adolescents are particularly vulnerable to developing addictions. Despite this, there is limited research exploring the cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying this increased susceptibility. Furthermore, there is a lack of awareness regarding how teenage drug abuse, specifically cocaine use, may manifest in clinical settings such as outpatient departments (OPD) and emergency rooms (ER). This case series aims to raise awareness about the diverse clinical presentations of cocaine abuse in adolescents. Observed over a period of two years by a single investigator, the study emphasizes the need for careful diagnostic skills to ensure early identification, appropriate treatment, and effective prognosis. Additionally, the series highlights the importance of providing proper counselling to both patients and their caregivers to support recovery and prevent relapse.
