Japan will see policy continuity despite rebrand

Significance Three of Japan’s largest political parties elected new leaders recently. Most of Ishiba’s cabinet picks are new in senior government roles, aiding his LDP rebrand. Ishiba, who will announce his policy priorities on October 4, supports the creation of an ‘Asian NATO’ and a disaster management agency, and regional revitalisation. Impacts A supplementary budget announcement will support policies curbing food and fuel price rises. Tokyo Metropolitan Government and Upper House elections in June and July 2025 will shape the government further down the line. The government will begin reorganisation to create a disaster management agency.
