Both US candidates have foreign policy advisors ready
Significance Harris still occupies a central position in the Biden administration and has downplayed international issues while campaigning. Trump’s frequent comments on world events have not been tethered to a clear foreign policy formulation. Impacts With foreign policy issues largely absent from electoral campaigning, voters have been given little to assess in this area. For foreign governments, the challenge remains that the degree of Biden-era continuity under Harris is unclear while Trump is unpredictable. Republican foreign policy is in flux as party elders retire and rising leaders have little interest or experience in international affairs. The US government is already atypical in its large number of political appointees, and a Trump administration would expand their numbers.
