Modernisation of Russian Pacific Fleet will be slow

Significance The Pacific Fleet plays a vital role in Russia's maritime strategy but it relies on Soviet-era surface vessels and its Indo-Pacific capabilities are much weaker than those deployed by China, Japan and the United States. Impacts The Pacific Fleet will continue to rely on ageing Soviet-era vessels to fulfil maritime policy objectives. An even older logistics support fleet will support combat vessels.
