The English-language linguocultural scenario “Money”: Structural and semantic features of nominative units

The aim of the research is to identify the structural and semantic features of nominative units that serve as means of linguistic expression of the English-language linguocultural scenario “Money”, which is achieved by shedding light on the notion of “linguocultural scenario” and defining the basic concepts and sub-concepts that are elements of the structure and implemented in the linguistic part of the scenario. The research has a scientific novelty, which consists in considering the studied scenario of the thematic area “Money”, which had not previously become the object of research, as a cognitive scheme of the speech situation from the standpoint of a comprehensive cognitive-cultural approach to linguistic material. This allowed us to identify the main structural and semantic characteristics of linguistic units. The research findings amount to the following: the predominance of structurally separable nominative units over structurally inseparable lexical units was revealed. The former are represented by two-word nominal constructions with a core noun or a verbal noun; syntactically contracted prepositive groups performing the function of definition; two-component verbal phrases with phrasal verbs. Among the latter, the most common are affixal nouns and adjectives describing types of money, actors, financial transactions and basic concepts of the monetary sphere, “highly specialized” verbs and verbs of the business sphere of the subject area “Money”.
