Ethnolinguistic educational practices in Udmurtia as a mechanism for preserving Udmurt ethnic identity
The research aims to document the current situation related to the functioning of the titular nation’s language in the Udmurt Republic. The novelty of the research lies in identifying new trends in the functioning of the Udmurt language amidst assimilation processes. These trends, which have become widespread recently, include the following: the expansion of the public functions of the Udmurt language (thematic online resources that promote the popularization of the Udmurt language); the preservation of native language teaching practices outside of schools (ethnocultural practices within the system of additional education for children; national holidays and festivals, competitions, and educational campaigns organized by Udmurt national-cultural communities). As a result of the research, the authors note that in the context of assimilation processes, for systemic work in the field of ethnolinguistic education, it is necessary to fully utilize information and communication technologies, actualize project-research activities, and expand leisure-based activities with language speakers as part of a comprehensive set of measures for the ethnolinguistic education of the republic’s residents.
