The functioning of connotonyms from works of children’s literature in the urban onymic space

Connotonyms from works of children’s literature occupy a special place in the speech of a modern native speaker of the Russian language. Connotonyms are regularly used by citizens in the onymic space of the settlement to create official and unofficial names. The purpose of the study is to describe the features of the functioning of connotonyms from works of children’s literature in the urban onymic space, the principles of their use for creating different types of urban onyms. The scientific novelty of the work consists in identifying the composition of the connotonyms most in demand in the urban onymic space from works of children’s literature, describing the existing patterns of their use. The results showed that names based on connotonyms from works of children’s literature are regularly created in the urban onymic space, while they can be used both in their original and transformed form. The studied connotonyms can be used both in the creation of official and unofficial names (urbanonyms and ergonyms). It was found that the tradition of creating names based on connotonyms from works of children’s literature originated in the Soviet period of the country’s history. Initially, they were used in names aimed at a children’s audience, and in the post-Soviet era they began to be used in the names of institutions whose activities are addressed to adults, which leads to the emergence of new meanings that were not originally embedded in the original name.
