The Perception of Physical Education Students Regarding the Vaccination Statement in Brazil

Objective: The objective of this study is to evaluate the importance and need to propose a Guidance Guide on the Importance of Vaccines for Physical Education Professionals with the aim of contributing to the health of Physical Education professionals. Theoretical Framework: The starting point for discussions on public and collective health in Physical Education goes beyond the physical aspect; it is necessary to delve deeper into questions about the responsibility of these professionals for their own health. Studies suggest that increasing the focus of Physical Education and demonstrating that the simple organic effect of physical activity is insufficient to promote health, but combined with biopsychosocial determinations contributes to the health process. Method: The methodology adopted for this research comprises a cross-sectional, descriptive and analytical design, exploratory in the beginning, to approach the topic, with a field research procedure, seeking information directly from the population involved in the study. Data collection was carried out through an online questionnaire, composed of open and closed questions arranged in two parts, the first with general data, to characterize the sample, and the second part with specific questions of the study, and accompanied by the Free and Informed Consent Form (FICF). Results and Discussion: The data showed that 99% of students recognize the importance of knowing their vaccination status, as it impacts safety during physical activities and in guiding clients. The survey also revealed the need for a vaccine guidance guide, which would help professionals disseminate accurate information and collaborate with others in the health field. Despite positive results regarding vaccination knowledge, some concerns were highlighted, such as misinformation about the effectiveness of vaccines. Research Implications: The implications of the research highlight the need to integrate vaccination education into the curriculum of physical education courses, preparing students for their responsibilities in promoting public health. The creation of a vaccine guidance guide could be a valuable tool in helping professionals to effectively inform and guide their clients. Furthermore, the research emphasizes the importance of collaboration between physical education and other health professionals, facilitating more effective management of disease prevention. Originality/Value: The originality and value of this research lies in its innovative approach to connecting Physical Education training with public health issues, specifically vaccination. By investigating students’ level of knowledge about vaccination status and their perception of the importance of vaccination in their future professional practices, the research fills a gap in the understanding of how these professionals can influence public health.
