UTILIZAÇÃO DA PELE DE TILÁPIA DO NILO NO TRATAMENTO DE QUEIMADURAS: REVISÃO DE LITERATURA

INTRODUCTION: Burns represent skin injuries that can vary in severity and origin. Conventional treatment, often based on silver sulfadiazine, has disadvantages such as irritation and high cost. Nile tilapia skin (Oreochromis niloticus) has been a viable alternative due to its rich composition in type 1 collagen, which promotes healing and infection prevention. OBJECTIVE: To analyze the use of Nile tilapia skin as a covering and graft in the treatment of burns. METHODS: This is a descriptive, qualitative research through an integrative bibliographic review, using the PICO methodology to organize the search in databases such as PUBMED, LILACS, VHL and MEDLINE. The final selection included eight relevant articles published between 2015 and 2023 using the descriptors: (''Oreochromis nicotilus'' OR ''Nile Tilapia'' OR tilapia OR cichlids OR ''Biocompatible Materials'') AND (''Wounds and Injuries '' OR ''soft tissue injuries'' OR ''skin ulcer'') AND Burns and (''Oreochromis nicotilus’’ OR ‘’Nile Tilapia’’ OR tilapia) AND (‘’Wounds and Injuries’’ OR ‘’soft tissue injuries’’) AND Burns. RESULTS: In the studies analyzed, Nile tilapia skin was found to be effective in accelerating healing and relieving pain, with the high concentration of type 1 collagen favoring regeneration and reducing the need for frequent dressing changes. Furthermore, its antimicrobial properties help prevent infections. CONCLUSION: Nile tilapia skin presents itself as an effective and economical alternative for the treatment of burns, with clinical potential.
