Environmental Indicators for Urban Waste Management in the Face of FPEIR

Objective: The main objective of this study is to generate environmental indicators for urban solid waste management, applying the Drivers-Pressures-State-Impact-Response (DPSIR) method to measure the application of legal norm in waste management in municipalities. Theoretical Framework: The main theoretical basis is the National Solid Waste Policy - PNRS and the standards that address the responsibility of municipalities in urban waste management in Brazil. Method: The methodology adopted for this research is exploratory, documentary and field with indicators generated based on data prescribed by ABRELP, resulting in qualitative and quantitative data. Data collection was carried out through interviews, questionnaires, visits and document analysis. Results and Discussion: The indicators were developed based on a methodology with adequate and inadequate parameters prescribed by CETESP and applied in a medium-sized Brazilian municipality. The result showed an inadequate situation in the municipality, indicating actions for adequate management of urban waste based on the PNRS of Brazil. Research Implications: The results imply studies for actions related to adequate management of urban waste, making it possible to prioritize the difficulties identified in the municipalities. Originality/Value: The result consists of a tool based on a tested methodology, capable of analyzing the situation of municipalities in the management and adequate management of urban waste. It is relevant because it contributes to improving the management of this waste related to sustainable design.
