Theoretical Framework: Three main concepts and theories are presented. The Right to Housing, based on the Federal Constitution of 1988. The Self-Managed Mutirão as a housing alternative, supported by social movements. Aging in Place, used to analyze how the mutirão can contribute to the permanence of elderly people in their own homes and communities. Method: The methodology adopted for this study was qualitative exploratory research using an integrative review of bibliographic sources. Results and Discussion: They revealed that self-managed community work is a promising housing alternative for promoting aging in place. This approach provides a strong sense of belonging, as it involves future residents throughout the planning and construction process of housing. Active participation encourages the creation of bonds with the community and promotes a sense of responsibility and collective identity. Research Implications: The practical and theoretical implications of this research are relevant both for the field of architecture and urban planning and for public policies aimed at aging and housing. Originality/Value: This study contributes to the literature by presenting an innovative alternative to the conventional model of residences for elderly people, demonstrating that it can be made viable through collaborative actions.
