Dynamic Simulation Model of an inWheel IPT System based on Experimental Characterization

Inductive Power Transfer (IPT) is a promising technology with the potential to revolutionise various sectors, including transportation, offering numerous advantages. Further research is essential to understand its behaviour and optimize efficiency under varied conditions, including the study of in-wheel IPT (inWIPT) technology. This system uses the wheel to transfer energy to the vehicle, maintaining a consistent air gap regardless of the vehicle type. This work presents a simulation model of inWIPT system developed for the dynamic charging scenario and an assessment is made to understand its behaviour. Magnetic Couplers (MC)s are characterized for self/mutual inductances used for simulations, considering wheel movement, rotation, lateral displacements, and airgap. A prototype is built to validate the MCs behavioural analysis and the simulation model under different conditions.
