Active Suppression of Low-Order Current Harmonics for 400kW Dual Three-Phase IPMSM Drives in Heavy-Duty EV Traction

Dual three-phase interior permanent magnet synchronous machines (DTP-IPMSMs) are usually driven by voltage source inverters. There are 64 basic voltage vectors which can be used to synthesize reference voltage vectors in the αβ subspace and z<inf xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">1</inf>z<inf xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">2</inf> subspace simultaneously. However, it becomes impossible when the modulation index increases. As a result, the harmonic currents in the z<inf xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">1</inf>z<inf xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">2</inf> subspace will be out of control. In this paper, a method is proposed to suppress the harmonic currents. Intermediate vectors are introduced to synthesize reference voltage vectors, and the amplitude of intermediate vectors is variable. Then, the harmonic currents could be suppressed. The effectiveness of the proposed method is verified by simulation.
