Optimized Hybrid EMI Filtering with Dual-Function Capacitors for Integrated Noise Sensing in Motor Drive Systems

This paper investigates Electromagnetic Interference (EMI) filtering on the DC side of systems equipped with a three-phase inverter, focusing on enhancing performance and reliability by reducing EMI noise across both differential and common mode. Initial evaluations assess the effectiveness of various passive filter configurations—specifically single-stage and double-stage LC filters—in suppressing EMI noise. Advancing beyond conventional passive approaches, this study introduces Active EMI Filters (AEFs) that incorporate feedback strategies, particularly focusing on Voltage Sensing and Current Injection (VSCI) techniques. A novel aspect of this work is to investigate the integration of Y-capacitors from the passive setups as dualfunction elements for both AEF sensing and passive filtering, optimizing filter size and performance. The implementation of these methods represents a significant advancement in EMI mitigation by integrating passive and active filtering techniques, leading to more compact and optimized hybrid filtering solutions for power electronics applications.
