Scalable simulation framework of e-axles for electric vehicles

This paper proposes a new methodology to establish a scalable model and control of an electric axle composed of three components, namely an inverter, an electric machine, and a gearbox. The presented methodology aims to use a single system-level model and control to speed up the early development phases of electric vehicles. This is achieved using the Energetic Macroscopic Representation formalism in combination with the scaling laws of each specific component. The methodology can be used to quickly assess the performance of different design candidates for electric axles for the same vehicle or multiple vehicle classes.

Abstract

This paper proposes a new methodology to establish a scalable model and control of an electric axle composed of three components, namely an inverter, an electric machine, and a gearbox. The presented methodology aims to use a single system-level model and control to speed up the early development phases of electric vehicles. This is achieved using the Energetic Macroscopic Representation formalism in combination with the scaling laws of each specific component. The methodology can be used to quickly assess the performance of different design candidates for electric axles for the same vehicle or multiple vehicle classes.
