Design procedure of pulse generator based on coaxial cables for Pulsed-Power Geo-Drilling

This paper presents a basic design procedure of a pulse generator based on coaxial cables for Pulsed-Power Geo-Drilling (PPGD). The high operating temperature and the compactness required for the pulse generator are the main design challenges. The parasitic elements of the pulse generator are calculated using Finite Element Method (FEM) simulations and the capacitance/inductance of the coaxial cable are calculated using analytical equations. The coaxial cables used in the generator are modelled to increase the efficiency of the system and the lifetime of the equipment based on the non-linear resistance of the plasma channel. The results obtained highlight the advantages of cable based generator.
