Design of a 1200Nm High Torque Density In-Wheel Magnetic Geared Motor for Electrical Vehicles
In the emerging field of electric vehicle technology, research on in-wheel motors has received increasing attention due to its ability to control independent wheels and direct drive, thereby improving operational flexibility. Due to the limited space and weight within the wheel, the size of the motor is reduced, which affects the output torque of the motor, thus limiting the performance of traditional permanent magnet motors. The magnetic geared motor is suitable for the application of in-wheel motors because of its low speed and high torque characteristics. This paper designs a three-airgap in-wheel magnetic geared motor based on a 16-inch wheel. Utilizing the high torque and low-speed characteristics of the magnetic geared motor, it can achieve a maximum output torque of 1202Nm, with a torque volume density of 120Nm/L. Compared to reference direct-drive in-wheel motor, its torque volume density is increased by 78%. and the current density and electrical load are reduced to 4.4 A/mm2 and 450A/cm respectively.
