Voltage Specification For Molded Inductors
For DC-DC converter applications molded power inductors have a variety of benefits; nevertheless, their operative voltage limitations are not always evident to designers. This study shows how the use of a higher voltage affects the material composition of a molded inductor and consequently causes performance degradation in DC-DC converters. Based on these findings, a clear methodology for defining the operating voltage for molded inductors is introduced, to ensure that the converter's inductor will not fail over its lifetime.
