Antioxidant for Byproduct-Free Cable Insulation Material

Some new cable insulation materials are studied at present, and byproduct-free cable materials are also included. In the early research of byproduct-free cable materials, it was found that they have excellent direct current (DC) performance. The addition of antioxidants are benefits to delay the aging of insulation materials, so the protection design of the byproduct-free cable materials added with the antioxidant has an important engineering significance. Three different hindered phenol antioxidants were selected for oxidation induction time (OIT), X-ray diffraction (XRD), DC breakdown strength and thermally stimulated depolarization current (TSDC) tests. It is observed that the insulation material which was added with antioxidant 300 (B-300) has the most excellent antioxidant performance among the four samples. The results show that the crystallinity of the insulation materials is slightly improved and the density of deep traps of the insulation materials has a great improvement after the addition of antioxidants. The DC breakdown strength of the three insulation materials added with antioxidant are improved compared with original one and the B-300 among them has the greatest DC performance. The addition of antioxidants increases the crystallinity of the insulation material which slight promotes the increase of the DC breakdown strength. The density of the deep trap increases, which enhances the ability of the traps to capture charge carriers, significantly improves the DC breakdown strength of the new high-voltage cable insulation materials. This study shows that antioxidant 300 has a potential application prospect in no degassing cable insulation materials.
