Dielectric Evaluation and Statistical Analysis of Power Distribution Overhead Line Using Eco-Friendly Polypropylene Insulation

This paper investigates the potential of using polypropylene (PP) as an alternative insulator material in power cables, aiming to address environmental concerns and improve recyclability compared to cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE). The study evaluates the electrical characteristics, particularly focusing on short-term AC dielectric strength, through Weibull analysis and ANOVA (Analysis of Variance). Weibull analysis demonstrates that PP exhibits superior dielectric strength compared to XLPE, with approximately 21% improvement overall and 18% in terms of β, with PP 8 showing the highest performance among PP variants. Additionally, two-way ANOVA reveals that dielectric strength varies significantly based on PP type and content ratio, while the type of rubber does not significantly affect dielectric strength. Interaction analysis suggests that the combination of rubber and PP does not influence dielectric strength. These findings underscore the potential of PP as a viable insulator material for power cables, highlighting its improved performance and recyclability compared to traditional XLPE.
