Transmission Line Parameters Description of Capacitive Wireless Power Transfer Systems

Capacitive wireless power transfer systems are hindered by the challenge of low coupling capacitance, preventing them from achieving the power densities seen in inductive power transfer. As a result, significant research is dedicated to improving compensation networks to overcome this limitation. However, these improvements have led to increased complexity in describing such systems. This paper demonstrates the effectiveness of using transmission line parameters as a simpler approach. The study includes the calculation of input impedance, output power, and voltage gain for a double-sided LC- and LCL- compensation network via transmission line parameters. The calculations are validated through SPICE simulations and an experiment in the lab.
